Vintage Route 66 Lizard Kachina by Artist

Leroy Pooley. B: April 19 1955  D: Jan 13 2021 Arizona.

Cliff Dwelling People Clan for the Hopi Tribe.

Well known family famous for making these Cottonwood Root Kachinas for the Harvey( 1960's-70's) & Pooley(1980's) Trading Posts.

Father Emil Pooley taught sons George & Leroy & daughter Grace.

Aquired from a private collection from the 1980's. Approximately  3. 25 " tall.

Route 66 was purely targeted toward the tourists traveling to South-West on Route 66 (hence the name). The "idea" of mass production of already well known kachinas was materialized around 1950s and Route 66 Kachina was created. It has very distinctive form where feet are made by cutting out a "V" shape piece between them.
